Microsoft on-premises and cloud pricing adjustments

As of 1 October 2018, Microsoft will be bringing in pricing adjustments for their on-premises and cloud products. These were announced back in July, but if you haven’t started thinking about how these changes will impact you yet, here is a recap.
What are the headlines?
– Government pricing will be aligned with commercial pricing. Meaning that government pricing will increase to be in line with the lowest commercial price in Enterprise Agreement / Enterprise Subscription Agreement, SCE, MPSA, Select / Select Plus, and Open Programs.
– Office 2019 on-premises pricing will increase by 10%.
– Server products will also see an 10% price increase, including: Enterprise CAL, Core CAL, Productivity Servers, and Window Server 2019 Standard Edition.
– RDS Per Device CAL will increase by 30% to match the Per User price.
Microsoft summed up the effect of these price changes in their original blog post:
“These changes will highlight the benefits of our pricing for a cloud-first world, help us move from program-centric to a customer-centric pricing structure, and create more consistency and transparency across our purchasing channels.”
