Distance learning – tools available for education
News|by Leanne Bevan|2 April 2020
Some tech corporations have decided to make the transition to distance learning a little bit easier for academic organisations, following the effects of COVID-19.
Adobe
Adobe will be providing schools and universities that have Creative Cloud access in onsite computer labs with temporary at-home licences of Creative Cloud desktop apps, at no additional cost. Access will be granted until 31 May 2020.
Adobe will enable Creative Cloud desktop app access to students and faculty who are part of an eligible EDU organisation (ETLA or VIP). All Creative Cloud desktop apps that are available in an All Apps subscription will be available. Schools and universities will need to request access to participate in this program.
Microsoft
Microsoft Teams is included in Office 365 A1, which is free for academic organisations. For help deploying Office 365 and getting started with Microsoft Teams, please contact us via the details below.
Minecraft: Education Edition will now also be available for free to students and teachers with Office 365 Educations accounts. Request access here and download the remote learning toolkit here.
Netop
Netop Remote Control OnDemand is being offered to existing Vision customers for free until 30 June 2020. The solution can help IT teams provide direct assistance to teachers and other education staff via screen sharing, and mouse, touchscreen and keyboard control.
Netop is also working on making Vision for Chromebooks more flexible for remote learning. Also, Netop Vision and Vision Pro can be used on Windows Remote Desktop Service. The Visual Student module can be installed and run on a central server so multiple students can access from almost any device that connects to the server. See the step-by-step guide here.
