Low-code development platforms to grow 20% in 2023
Blog|by Leanne Bevan|9 January 2023
The latest Gartner, Inc. report predicts that the low-code development technology market will grow by a whopping 19.6% to $26.9 billion in 2023 (in just a year).
What is driving the rise of low-code adoption?
Gartner suggests that a rise in business technologists and a growing number of enterprise-wide hyperautomation and composable business initiatives will be the key drivers accelerating the adoption of low-code technologies over the next three years.
Businesses are turning to low-code to be more agile and meet the demands for quick application delivery. And to equip IT and non-tech roles with the skills to build applications and automated workflows, due to the difficulty of hiring developers and technical roles. Hybrid and remote workforces are also expected to influence the rise of low-code adoption too.
Gartner predicts that by 2026, developers outside formal IT departments will account for at least 80% of the user base for low-code development tools, up from 60% in 2021.
Low-code application platforms
Insights from Gartner find that low-code application platforms (LCAPs) are projected to be the largest component of the low-code development technology market, growing 25% to reach nearly $10 billion in 2023 (see the table below).

Agile development is key for business productivity, efficiency, and adapting to the fast-changing world. Low-code development and hyperautomation are integral to supporting business agility now and in the future.
Which low-code application platforms are available?
There are many low-code application platforms out there. Currently, Grey Matter offers two of the leading solutions.
Microsoft Power Platform is made up of applications that are powerful alone but better together. Combine Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents to build end-to-end business solutions that will empower your business to solve challenges rapidly and cost-effectively. By connecting them to other Microsoft apps like Office 365, Dynamics 365, and Azure you can create complex solutions with relative ease.
Visual LANSA combines low-code and traditional coding in the same IDE - one IDE to develop progressive web and desktop applications using many of the same assets. The hybrid low-code approach means your team can build entire apps more efficiently than most on the market. Hybrid low-code minimises hand-coding and eliminates supporting multiple development languages and frameworks.
