JetBrains product insight: DataGrip
Blog|by Leanne Bevan|3 March 2023
Our JetBrains product insight series is back and this time we are looking at the data science tools. First up is DataGrip. We interviewed Maxim Sobolevskiy, Datagrip Team Lead and Product Marketing Manager, to find out more about this awesome database tool.
What is DataGrip?
DataGrip is a multi-engine database GUI tool supporting Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, SQLite and lots of other databases on the market. Its functionality is also built into other IJetBrains based IDEs like IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, etc.
Who is DataGrip for?
Basically for anyone who works with SQL and databases in general. Most of the time it is software developers, but not only that, it can meet the needs of data analytics, data engineers, database administrators or even marketing specialists.
Why should they use DataGrip?
Because we at JetBrains care about productivity and created a tool that makes daily tasks super easy to perform. Activities that can be cumbersome or just require lots of manual work can be performed in DataGrip much faster. On top of that, DataGrip has a modern and very customisable user interface.
What is your favourite DataGrip feature and why?
If chose only one (which is hard!), code completion. DataGrip is a unique tool in the database market in that aspect. We load the metadata from the database and perform a very deep analysis with this metadata. This allows us to provide code completion not only super-fast but also in a smart way: for example, DataGrip understands when it should suggest tables and when the keywords.
Do you have any resources that you recommend customers read/watch?
Yes, we do recommend watching our overview video, it educates our users a lot!
