IWD 2021
Blog|8 March 2021

8 March marks International Women’s Day 2021, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. We would like to recognise and acknowledge the women of the world as well as the smart and incredible women who work at Grey Matter.
We also want to highlight and spread awareness of gender equality. Much of this is linked to encouraging women to get into STEM.
“It is important for anyone to join the tech industry. The different ideas, perspectives and problem solving that each individual has enables technology to evolve and adapt to the ever-evolving world.”
– Gill, Grey Matter Partner Manager
“It’s important for more women to join the tech industry to encourage the balance of the workforce and reduce the fear of breaking into
a male-dominated industry.”
– Carolyn, Grey Matter Account Support
As a company working in the technology industry, this is something we value.
“Myspace (cringe) was a big influence in my career direction. The desire to make my profile unique from my friends and the ability to style it using HTML and CSS really did spark my interest in learning coding languages and problem solving with them. Learning through a hobby was fun and it grew from there.”
– Lauren, Grey Matter Business Intelligence and Data Engineer
At Grey Matter, we are proud to have a 50/50 employee gender split.
“I feel that over the years the tech industry has changed to help women in their careers, however I feel that more could be done to promote tech to young females in schools and colleges to help gain their interests in a future so they go onto apprenticeships.”
– Jenna, Grey Matter Internal Sales Support
“I have never stopped myself from taking an opportunity because of my gender, I have always just tried to be the best I can. So my advice would be… take the feedback on and work towards being a better you. Not everything is personal so take it with a pinch of salt and work towards greatness!”
– Jaz, Group Services Team Co-ordinator
This year the theme is #ChooseToChallenge and asks the question of everyone, how will you help forge a gender-equal world?
