Power BI to enable shared and certified datasets
News|5 June 2019
Shared and certified datasets are due to become available in Power BI with the public preview to start rolling out over the next few days.
These new capabilities will enable full lifecycle of sharing datasets across organisations. Shared datasets will allow a single dataset to be used by multiple reports across workspaces, meaning that data providers will only need to maintain a single copy of their dataset in their own workspace and users won’t need to worry about separately maintaining.
These changes will see value delivered in several key areas:
- An integrated dataset catalog across Power BI desktop and service will allow a search and browse capability spanning all data in PowerBI. Shared datasets will also be available in external tools.
- IT admins can mark datasets as certified when they are authoritative.
- Usage information will be shown on shared datasets via PowerBI’s audit logs and Premium capacity metrics apps.
- Dataset owners will be able to see how their shared datasets are being used by others via the related content pane.
You can read a more in-depth report on these new features here.
