News|by Leanne Bevan|7 July 2023
Developer tool specialist, JetBrains, has released Space On-Premises 2023.2, a new version of its software development team collaboration tool with enhanced accessibility and several new features. The update includes simplified installation options, including an AWS one-click installation option and Docker Compose installation with expanded configuration steps.
Additionally, Space On-Premises 2023.2 introduces several productivity-enhancing features, such as IDE-inspired navigation, issue time tracking, build artifact storage and project dependency caching, support for Rust packages, the ability to create issues directly from code snippets, and more.
What's new in JetBrains Space On-Premises?
AWS one-click installation
The AWS one-click installation allows users to quickly and easily run Space on the AWS cloud, providing a stable solution that utilises AWS resources and ensures secure data storage through AWS RDS and S3. This option is ideal for organizations already leveraging AWS or those without a dedicated infrastructure.
Docker Compose installation
The Docker Compose installation option allows users to deploy Space On-Premises in Docker containers with minimal effort. It offers a simple and stable Docker native installation that can be hosted anywhere, providing flexibility to adapt to different infrastructure requirements. The 2023.2 release introduces additional configuration steps for a more stable installation and allows for scalability as data needs increase.
Kubenetes installation
For those using Kubernetes, the Kubernetes installation option provides a scalable and high-availability solution. It can be installed in any Kubernetes-supported cluster, whether in a self-hosted environment or on cloud services like Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, Google Kubernetes Engine, or Azure Kubernetes Service. This option is suitable for managing larger workloads but requires Kubernetes knowledge for administration and troubleshooting.

Other JetBrains Space On-Premises new features
IDE-like navigation
The 2023.2 version of Space On-Premises introduces several new features aimed at improving productivity. IDE-like navigation has been added, allowing users to navigate quickly within Space using familiar keyboard shortcuts. This feature streamlines navigation between chat messages, issues, and code reviews. Build artifacts and project dependencies can now be stored in file repositories, enabling users to optimise CI jobs, save resources, and enhance build times.
Merge requests
A new feature allows users to pre-fill merge request descriptions from branch commit messages, improving the clarity and completeness of merge requests.
Create issues from code snippets
Another useful feature is the ability to create issues directly from code snippets. Users can highlight a portion of their code and create an issue or send it to a chat or channel, with the highlighted code snippet linked to the corresponding file or commit in the repository. Time tracking for issues has been enhanced, allowing users to dynamically track the time spent on an issue for better management of working hours. Issues can now be accessed across multiple projects, simplifying work on different projects within the organisation. Advanced filters have been added to improve issue search capabilities.
Other great features
Space On-Premises 2023.2 also includes the ability to publish Docker and OCI images, as well as Helm charts, from Space Packages to Docker Hub. The update introduces support for managing and sharing Rust packages using Cargo sparse-registry support, which speeds up package dependency downloading during project builds and simplifies credential assignment.
Additional features in Space On-Premises 2023.2 include the ability to pin dashboard items for project members, insert diagrams using the Mermaid syntax and CSV tables in chats, documents, and repositories, and navigate through files and folders with the built-in preview in Documents.
