Good mental health is crucial for developers who often face high stress and long hours.
Amid the relentless pace of the tech industry and software development, maintaining good mental health, achieving work-life balance in tech, and staying productive can be challenging.
We’ve always been devoted to developers and to wrap up Mental Health Awareness Week, we wanted to take the time to focus on the coder rather than the code. Here’s our round up of some practical tips, friendly reminders and resources to help you thrive both personally and professionally.
Building a healthy mindset as a software developer
You probably already know these, but it’s important to continue reiterating their importance and incorporating at least two of these amidst your busy schedules.
- Mindfulness and meditation: Regular mindfulness practices can reduce stress and improve focus. These could be starting your day off with a guided meditation, journalling, or just a bit of silence as you go about your morning routine.
- Physical activity: Exercise is a powerful tool for mental health. Even short breaks for stretching or walking can make a significant difference. Consider using fitness apps, like Strava or Fitbit, to track your activity and invite others to join you as well.
- Social connections: Continuing from the last point, building a support network is essential. Engage with colleagues, join developer communities, or participate in local meetups to foster connections and share experiences.

We’ve created a committee consisting of employees across different departments helping to organise employee well-being events and activities to support mental wellbeing in and out of the workplace. For example, we’ve summer parties, a football club, company-wide sports day, personal training sessions on Tuesdays and yoga classes on Wednesdays over the lunch break.
