Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Update
News|4 October 2018
Microsoft released Windows Server 2019 this month (October 2019). What’s all the fuss about?
With the latest release of Windows Server comes some exciting features and improvements:
• Optimisations to Server Core container base image
• Improved compatibility for apps running in containers
• Enhanced support for Group Managed Service Accounts
• Platform functionality leveraged by Kubernetes and Microsoft Service Fabric
• Container Performance and density improvements
• Platform and open source work on CNI network plugins such as Calico and Flannel
With this release, Microsoft have focused on four key areas: Hybrid, Security, Application Platform, and Hyper-converged Infrastructure.
Customers will now be able to take advantage of Microsoft’s Project Honolulu (now known as Windows Admin Center) – which is a lightweight locally deployed, browser-based platform, and a solution for management scenarios such as; servers, clusters, hyper-converged infrastructure and Windows 10 PCs. It comes at no additional cost beyond Windows and is ready to use in production. The Windows Admin Center complements System Center – it’s not a replacement, it’s a modern evolution of existing “in-box” management tools such as Server Manager and the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
One of Microsoft’s goals with this is to make it simpler and easier to connect to and integrate with existing deployments of Windows Server to Microsoft Azure Services such as Azure Backup, Azure File Sync, Azure Recovery Services and more. This integration will allow customers to leverage these Azure Services without disrupting existing deployments containing mission-critical applications and infrastructure.
