What’s new in InstallShield 2025
News|14 July 2025
InstallShield 2025 R1 has arrived, and it brings a host of enhancements that streamline your software deployment, improve accessibility, and offer greater flexibility for modern development environments. Whether you're a seasoned installer engineer or just getting started with software packaging, this release has something for you.
Key new features in InstallShield 2025
1. High contrast mode support for advanced UI
Accessibility takes centre stage with full support for Windows High Contrast Mode in Advanced UI and Suite/Advanced UI installations. Previously, text and navigation elements were difficult to read under high contrast settings. Now, all wizard pages are fully legible, ensuring a better experience for users with visual impairments.
2. 64-Bit InstallScript setup launchers
InstallShield 2025 introduces a new Architecture setting in the Build tab, allowing you to build InstallScript-based setup launchers for:
- x86 (32-bit) – Compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows.
- x64 (64-bit) – Exclusively for 64-bit Windows platforms.
This gives developers more control over targeting specific system architectures, aligning better with modern application requirements.
3. Streamlined project upgrades
Upgrading from earlier versions? InstallShield 2025 includes Project Upgrade Alerts and improved compatibility handling, making transitions smoother and reducing the risk of migration issues.
4. Simplified edition naming
To reduce confusion, InstallShield has updated its edition naming conventions, making it easier to identify the right version for your needs.
5. Updated Windows support
InstallShield 2025 expands its list of supported target systems, ensuring compatibility with the latest Windows versions and updates.
Enhancements and fixes
- Improved licensing server requirements: Concurrent license users must update their FlexNet Licensing Server software.
- Removed legacy options: The .NET/J# tab and MSI Engine options have been removed from the Releases view to declutter the UI and reflect modern development practices.
Why you should buy InstallShield
These updates reflect a broader shift toward accessibility, 64-bit readiness, and simplified workflows. Whether you're deploying enterprise software or consumer apps, InstallShield 2025 helps you build more robust, future-proof installers with less friction.
