Podcast|by Leanne Bevan|12 June 2025

Has AI killed data science?
In this episode of our podcast (Grey Matter Talks Tech), we welcome data science expert, Dr Jodie Burchall to tell us about the current landscape of data science in 2025, looking beyond the headlines dominated by large language models. For instance, we cover that while advances in the past five years in deep learning have led to new work in natural language processing and computer vision, tabular data analysis and classic machine learning remain a key part of the field. We also discuss the increasingly specialised roles within the data science ecosystem, talk about the evolving toolset that practitioners are using, and see which challenges face modern data science projects.
Tune in to our podcast to hear our discussion. Get tips, insights and stories about data science in 2025.

As asset tracking moves beyond logistics into regulated, distributed and high‑value environments, software teams need location intelligence that delivers real‑world context, not just coordinates. This shift is redefining how modern applications manage risk, automation and scale.
