Migrating from Bing Maps to Azure Maps: Planning for 2028 and Beyond
If your mapping stack still relies on Bing Maps, you’re already at risk. Microsoft retired Basic and Free accounts on 30 June 2025. While Enterprise support continues until 30 June 2028, it’s crucial to understand that your individual agreement may expire sooner, many Enterprise agreements are set to end in 2026 or 2027.
This means that even if the ultimate deadline feels far off, your own cut-off could arrive much sooner, potentially resulting in service disruption if proactive steps aren’t taken. The time to begin planning your migration is now.
This isn’t just about avoiding disruption. It’s your chance to modernise, optimise, and future-proof your mapping infrastructure with a platform built for scale, security, and innovation. We’ll help you make the move with clarity, confidence, and zero downtime.
We can work alongside your renewal agreement and help plan ahead of schedule, providing direct access to dedicated Microsoft specialists. By aligning with your contract dates, we ensure you’re never up against a deadline and can migrate at a pace that suits your business needs, with minimal disruption
What’s changed
Microsoft is consolidating its mapping services under Azure Maps, a cloud-native platform designed for enterprise-grade performance. Here’s what’s already happened:
- Bing Maps Basic and Free accounts were retired on 30 June 2025
- No new Bing Maps SKUs are available
- Enterprise licences are supported until 30 June 2028, however, your agreement may expire sooner, in either 2026 or 2027, depending on your original contract terms. This creates a sense of urgency: waiting until 2028 is not an option. Early planning ensures you avoid any unwanted interruption and maintain business continuity.
If you’re still using Bing Maps under an Enterprise agreement, now’s the time to start reviewing your contract end date, assessing your existing usage, and planning your migration pathway. We’re here to work with you, aligning to your unique agreement dates, so you can transition seamlessly and with confidence.
