Acronis expands Cyber Protect Cloud with new EDR solution
News|by Leanne Bevan|23 May 2023
Acronis, one of our leading cyber security partners, has recently expanded its Cyber Protect Cloud offering by introducing a cutting-edge endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution. Moreover, the company is exploring the integration of generative AI into its platform in the future.
What’s included in Acronis’ new EDR solution?
Acronis has expanded its Cyber Protect Cloud by introducing a powerful EDR solution, catering specifically to managed service providers (MSPs). Launched on 17 May 2023, this new tool focuses on optimised incident analysis, providing a user-friendly interface that even non-experienced staff can navigate easily. Users have the option to operate in simple English language or utilise naming conventions aligned with the techniques, tactics, and procedures (TTPs) defined by the MITRE ATT&CK and NIST cybersecurity frameworks.
Enhanced incident analysis for MSPs
The primary goal of Acronis with this new offering is to assist MSPs in analysing and prioritising security incidents and potential attacks without relying on expensive security expertise or time-consuming processes. During a launch event on May 15, Candid Wüest, VP of Research at Acronis, emphasised this objective.
According to Wüest in an Info Security Group article, “By quickly comprehending attack analysis and impact, Acronis EDR users can efficiently assess potential threats, gain insights into attackers’ entry points, assess the extent of the damage, and predict the attack’s propagation.”
Integration of AI-based attack analysis
Acronis EDR also incorporates an AI-powered attack analysis feature. Wüest mentioned that Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud has already leveraged AI and machine learning in various areas, such as pre-execution file detection, behaviour-based classification of process activity, automatic backup analysis, and predicting hard disk drive failures.
Furthermore, Wüest stated that Acronis is actively exploring opportunities to integrate generative AI, including large language models (LLMs), into the user-facing side of their platform.
Presentation by former FBI Operative
As part of their promotional efforts, Acronis invited Eric O’Neill, a former FBI counterintelligence operative, to deliver a presentation on his experience apprehending Robert Hanssen, a Russian spy working for the FBI, in 2001. O’Neill’s successful capture of Hanssen relied on acquiring the latter’s Palm Pilot, a personal digital assistant used before the advent of smartphones.
O’Neill, an esteemed cybersecurity expert, praised the evolution of EDR technology and its transformative impact on security practices. He highlighted the latest advancements in EDR, including the ability to rapidly analyse changes in attacks, reduce incident response times, and enhance overall business continuity for organisations.
Wrap-up
Acronis has expanded its Cyber Protect Cloud offering by introducing a new EDR solution tailored to the needs of managed service providers. This solution enables efficient incident analysis and empowers users with a user-friendly interface and flexible language options. Acronis also incorporates AI-based attack analysis and is actively exploring the integration of generative AI into its platform. The company’s efforts to enhance cybersecurity practices align with the endorsement of renowned experts like Eric O’Neill, who acknowledge the significant benefits of advanced EDR technology.
