Visual Studio Codespaces: renaming Visual Studio Online
News|4 May 2020
In November 2019, Microsoft announced the public preview of Visual Studio Online; a new version of Visual Studio that allowed developers to collaborate from anywhere with cloud-hosted dev environments.
On 30 April 2020, Microsoft announced that it was renaming Visual Studio Online, Visual Studio Codespaces in order to better align with the feedback from its users that “the capabilities of this cloud-hosted dev environment make it the space where I want to write all my code”.
Alongside this announcement, Microsoft has released a new feature for Visual Studio Codespaces. Users will now be able to use a Basic instance type with two virutal cores, perfect for those scenarios where you don’t need as much power or you want to run multiple smaller Codespaces.
