Bing Maps key no longer valid? Here’s what to do about disabled basic keys

If you're encountering unexpected errors while using Bing Maps in your commercial applications, you're not alone. Microsoft has officially disabled support for Bing Maps Basic Keys, and this change is now impacting users across both the REST APIs and Map Control.
Common errors when your Bing Maps key is no longer valid
If your application is still using a Basic Key, you may encounter the following error messages:
- REST APIs
403 Forbidden – The request was forbidden. Your credentials may be denied or suspended.
- Map Control
The specified credentials are invalid. You can sign up for a free developer account at http://www.bingmapsportal.com.
These errors indicate that your Bing Maps key is no longer valid, meaning your application is unable to authenticate with Bing Maps Services.
- Multi-Itinerary Optimisation (MIO) API has been retired
The Bing Maps Calculate Optimised Itinerary Routes service is retired. Azure Maps offers this capability with enhanced security, privacy, and compliance features. Why is this happening?
Microsoft is phasing out Basic Keys as part of broader security and licensing updates to the Bing Maps Platform. As a result, any application still relying on a Basic Key must migrate to a supported key type to maintain functionality.
