World Backup Day 2022
Blog|by Leanne Bevan|31 March 2022
31 March marks the day we spread the word about the importance of backing up both personal and business data to prevent data loss.
Take a look at the video below by the World Backup Day organisation to learn more:
In the last 2 years, there has been a sharp uptake in people using personal or work devices at home and on the go as part of their new day-to-day way of working. But that leaves these devices and data more vulnerable to accidental or malicious data loss. With more data, more devices and more remote and hybrid working, it’s incredibly important that backup is in place. Just take a look at some of these startling facts shared by worldbackupday.com:
- 21% of people have never made a backup
- 113 phones are lost or stolen every minute
- 29% of data loss cases are caused by accident
- 30% of all computers are already infected with malware
Another report found that nearly three million UK SMBs were at high risk of losing data by not backing it up correctly or even failing to back it up at all. Shocking right?
Backup in 2022
I spoke to our cyber security expert, Scott Harrison, to learn more about backup in 2022 and what it means for organisations today. Here’s what he had to say…
“Backup and recovery present an entirely new set of challenges for organisations to understand and address. They must achieve specific recovery time objectives (RTOs) of minutes or hours for each application. They must define each application’s recovery point objective (RPO) to determine how much if any, data loss an application can sustain prior to recovery. There is now a vast choice of options for storing your business-critical data, and the method of 3-2-1 is modified to 3/2/1/1/0 to accommodate these options, and offer disaster recovery in the case of completely destroyed backup media or in the event of a cyber-attack such as ransomware.
3 different copies of media > 2 different types of media > 1 which is off-site in a datacentre, cloud or tape > 1 which is Offline = 0 errors after backup recoverability verification
These considerations also branch out for “Business Continuity” and ensure that if your business does suffer an outage you can continue to operate. Often, one product may not offer the solution that you’re looking for and that’s where we can help, with both licensing and cloud technical teams in-house we can ensure that if the worse comes to worst we are on tap to help you get back to normal.”
How we can help you with backup
Take a look at our Backup and Recovery section on our Cyber Security page to find out more about the different solutions we offer and how we can help you with backup software licensing, advice, free trials, demos, and even backup services. But remember, backup doesn’t prevent cyber-attacks from happening in the first place, that’s where our other cyber security solutions such as endpoint protection, firewalls and network security can help you achieve full data protection.
If you’re an MSP looking to branch out and offer backup to your end-users, get in touch to learn about how we can support you. Also, make sure to check out our case study about how backup saved one of our service provider’s customers around £8000.

How HERE SDK keeps drivers moving when connectivity drops
Peak season is stressful enough without losing navigation mid-route. Rural “not-spots” and dead zones can derail deliveries fast. HERE SDK solves this with offline navigation and truck-aware routing, so your drivers stay on track, even when the signal disappears.
